At Casey Homes, we don't just tell you that you have an energy efficient home, we prove it. Every Casey Home will receive a Home Energy Rating and will be given a score on the HERS Index.
What is a Home Energy Rating? It is a measurement of a home's energy efficiency. It is performed by a certified home energy rater. This home energy rater inspects the home, analyzes and measures energy characteristics such as efficient of windows and the HVAC system, levels of insulation, wall-to-window ratios, as well as the orientation of the home to the sun.
Onsite inspections and testing include a blower door test (to test the leakiness of the house) and a duct test (to test the leakiness of the ducts.) All the information gathered from the analysis and testing is entered to receive a point score between 1 and 100, depending on the home's relative efficiency. This scoring system is the HERS Index.
The HERS (Home Energy Rating System) Index is a scoring system established by RESNET (Residential Energy Services Network). A HERS Index of 100 is built to the specifications of the 2006 International Energy Conservation Code. It is the baseline for the HERS Index. A net zero energy home will score a HERS Index of 0. The lower a home's HERS Index, the more energy efficient it will be.
